Frequently asked questions

What's a good takedown percentage in wrestling?

There's no single benchmark since it varies hugely by level and weight class, but many high school and college coaches consider 45–55% offensive conversion solid, with elite wrestlers often clearing 60%+. Takedown defence in the 65–80% range is generally considered strong at competitive levels.

Why track takedown defence separately from offence?

The two skills use different technique bases — offence is about setups and finishes, defence is about sprawling, angle-changing and re-shooting. A wrestler can have excellent offence and weak defence (or vice versa), and tracking them separately shows exactly where training time is most needed.
