How many points do you get for a win, draw and loss?
The 3-1-0 points system (3 for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss) is universal across professional football and used in this calculator. It replaced the old 2-1-0 system in English football in 1981 and was adopted by FIFA globally. The change was designed to incentivise attacking play and reduce the number of deliberately drawn matches.
What does GD mean in a football table?
GD stands for goal difference — goals scored minus goals conceded. A team that has scored 24 and conceded 18 has a GD of +6. A team that has scored 10 and conceded 20 has a GD of −10. Goal difference is the first tiebreaker when teams are level on points in most competitions.
Can I use this for other sports?
Yes, if your sport uses a win/draw/loss points system. Hockey, handball, basketball, and many other sports use similar table formats. For sports with no draws (basketball, American football), simply never enter a draw and the table will track wins and losses correctly.
