What is Rowing Split (500m Split)?

The time to row 500 metres — the standard pace measure on a rowing ergometer.

A rowing split is the time to complete 500 metres, expressed as mm:ss. It is the standard pace metric for rowing machines (ergs) and on-water rowing. A 2:00/500m split means one kilometre every four minutes. Splits are used to set training intensities, plan race strategies and compare performance across sessions. Power in watts is directly linked to split through the Concept2 formula: watts = 2.8 ÷ (split in seconds ÷ 500)³.
