The 10-point must system is the universal scoring standard in professional boxing. Three judges independently score each round: the winner receives 10 points; the loser receives 9. A knockdown, or a heavily dominant round without a knockdown, may be scored 10-8. Three judges scoring independently produces three separate scorecards. A unanimous decision requires all three judges to agree; a split decision means two score for one fighter and one for the other; a majority decision means two judges agree and one scores a draw.
