In T20 cricket, run rate metrics track batting momentum and chase progress. Current run rate (CRR) = runs scored ÷ overs faced. Required run rate (RRR) = runs still needed ÷ overs remaining. When RRR exceeds CRR, the batting team is behind the required rate. Run rates above 12 rpo become very difficult; above 15 is near-impossible except in short bursts. Average T20 scoring rates in international cricket are 8-9 rpo; the IPL averages around 9-10 rpo.
