In limited-overs cricket (ODIs and T20s), powerplay overs restrict where fielders can stand. In ODIs: the first 10 overs (mandatory powerplay) allow only two fielders outside the 30-yard circle; a batting powerplay of five overs allows only three. In T20s: the first six overs allow only two outside the circle. These restrictions mean more gaps for attacking batters, producing higher scoring rates during powerplay overs. Batters who can exploit powerplays are extremely valuable.
