What is Rugby Union Positions?

The 15 playing positions in rugby union, split into forwards (1–8) and backs (9–15).

Rugby union has 15 players per side: eight forwards (props, hooker, locks, flankers, number 8) who contest scrums, line-outs and rucks, and seven backs (scrum-half, fly-half, centres, wings, fullback) who run, kick and handle in open play. Each position carries specialist responsibilities — props anchor the scrum while the fly-half directs tactical play.
