What is Hand-Eye Coordination?

The coordinated control of hand movement guided by visual input — fundamental to all ball and racket sports.

Hand-eye coordination is the ability of the visual system to guide hand movements accurately and quickly — tracking a moving object and positioning the hand (or a held implement) to intercept it. It underpins virtually every ball, racket and striking sport: catching, throwing, hitting and racket play all depend on it. While partly developed in childhood, hand-eye coordination remains highly trainable at any age through practice, reaction drills, juggling and sport-specific repetition. It tends to decline gradually with age but can be substantially preserved through continued practice of coordination-demanding activities.
