What whole plant foods are highest in protein?

Do plant proteins have all the essential amino acids?

Most individual plant protein sources are incomplete — they are low in one or more essential amino acids. Soy, quinoa, and hemp seed are exceptions and contain all essential amino acids in adequate amounts. For plant-based athletes, the traditional advice was to combine complementary proteins (e.g. rice and beans) at each meal. Current thinking is that variety across the day is sufficient — the body pools amino acids over several hours, so meal-by-meal combining is not strictly necessary.
