Triathlon consists of three disciplines completed consecutively: swimming, cycling and running. The four standard distances are: Sprint (750m/20km/5km), Olympic (1500m/40km/10km), 70.3 Half Ironman (1.9km/90km/21.1km) and Ironman Full (3.86km/180km/42.2km). Transitions between disciplines (T1 swim-to-bike, T2 bike-to-run) add further time. Most beginners start with a Sprint and progress upward. The Ironman is one of the most demanding single-day endurance events in mainstream sport.
