What is T1 and T2 Transitions (Triathlon)?

The two transitions in a triathlon — T1 (swim to bike) and T2 (bike to run).

T1 is the transition from swimming to cycling — involving wetsuit removal, helmet fitting, sunglasses, shoes and bike collection. T2 is the transition from cycling to running — racking the bike, removing the helmet, swapping cycling to running shoes, and grabbing a race number. Transitions are officially timed in triathlon — they contribute to the total race time. Elite athletes complete T1 in 60-90 seconds and T2 in 30-60 seconds. Practice transitions are essential for race day efficiency.
