What is League Points System?

How football leagues award points: three for a win, one for a draw.

Modern football uses three points for a win and one for a draw, with none for a loss. This 'three points for a win' system, adopted widely from the 1980s-90s, rewards attacking play by making wins far more valuable than draws. Teams level on points are usually separated by goal difference, then goals scored. Note that rugby league and some other sports use two points for a win instead.
