Yes — and research shows it improves endurance performance. Strength and power training improves running economy, cycling efficiency and neuromuscular coordination. Most elite endurance programmes now include 2 weekly strength/power sessions.

Which declines faster with age?

Power — fast-twitch muscle fibres and neuromuscular explosiveness decline significantly from age 35-40 without specific training. Aerobic capacity declines more gradually. Power training is therefore especially important for older athletes.
